Beulah Creek Nursery

Toglia Baird and her family have been working toward opening Beulah Creek Nursery for 15 years and spring 2009 has marked the launch of a long-time dream. Witnessing the development of this property over the past several months has been the talk of the island, with all of us eager to see what incredible changes would occur.

You will find vegetable seedlings, most of which were started by the nursery, and an assortment of perennial plants, shrubs and trees, many of which came from divisions from their own incredible home garden. If the plants are thriving in this nursery, you can be assured that they have lasted the Toglia Test of Time and are sure to be hardy for our area. Her seed starts are sprouted and grown using non-chemical methods of fertilizing, which here means, lot's of llama poo. Offering huge wealth of Hornby gardening advice, Toglia is a delight to chat with any day.

Plans for their property are to include a demonstration garden and orchard showing the workings of permaculture, an undulating garden-scape around the perimeter and the building of another greenhouse for seedlings and a cob built office.

Nestled amidst the beauty of this growing nursery you will also find two other gems. Kees and Iyana's fruit stand, where summertime weekly trips to the Okanogan provide islanders with fresh fruit and veggies.
