Hornby Island Farmers' Market

We operate under the BC Farmers Market Associations mandate:

"Make it, Bake it, Grow it."

History

Welcome to the Hornby Farmers' Market

The Hornby Island Farmers' Market was created in 1995 out of the need to promote and facilitate the display and sale of the ever growing bounty generated on our island, be it produce or crafts.

The Hornby Island Ratepayers Association donated the original site and from its humble beginnings to the present move to the new park, the market has been a success. The "Make it, Bake it, Grow it" motto allows the patrons to be assured of Hornby Island quality and diversity at its best. The market has grown over the years into a full bloom summer event.

Who Are We?

We're a vibrant group of growers, home-bakers, hand-makers, artisans, and painters. Most of us are long-term residents who have spent many years exploring, developing and perfecting our craft. We are proud to bring you our harvest, the best from Hornby's farms and studios, kitchens and gardens.

Market Day

From the soil, picked early in the morning, the freshest of what's in season: vegetables, fruit, flowers, and herbs, all spray-free and naturally grown. And from our nurseries you'll find all sorts of perennials, shrubs, baskets, and bedding plants.

Baking and Canning

Home-made international breads, pastries, cookies and cakes, eclectic jams, preserves, pickles and spreads prepared from our gourmets' inventive recipes.

Lunch

Hungry yet? From the traditional to the exotic, we have quite the choice! You can stay for lunch or find something to take away for a picnic.

Jewellery

One-of-a-kind silverwork, whimsical bead craft, not just your average kind of things.

Woodwork

Crafty boxes that you can easily find a need for. Bowls and hand-turned pens even.

Cards

Hand-painted, pressed flowers, mix-media, kid-art

Fibre Arts

From the fleece: spinning, dying, knitting, and felting. T-shirts, designer clothing and unexpected accessories. Puppets with a purpose.

Photography

It may look easy but it takes a special eye. See our world through our lenses.

Painting

A glimpse into our inner world. From folk-art to classic, we're the home of many well-known and yet-to-be.

Pottery

From the abstract to the practical, you can find pots, tableware and fanciful art pieces.

Body

Handmade soaps, body lotions, herbal potions, henna'd hands. Relax, have a massage, treat your feet to a reflexology session.

Yes, island authors of novels and poetry. Hornby has serious talent. Performance artists, wandering minstrels, Peruvian pipes, an opera-singing chef?

You've never been to a market quite like ours!
