Ann Newdigate

Ann first came to Hornby in 1968 and still finds that the environment allows her to open new facets of her practice. Her current work layers the past and the present, the personal and the public. Transcribing Xhosa legends and Middle English she developed a signature tapestry font, which is used in conjunction with drawing and writing, to compose simple visual morality tales on the computer. Archivally stable digital prints are individually rendered on rag paper, often incorporating her miniature tapestry images which are inspired by ancient Coptic portraits. Ann received her B.A. in African Studies & English Lit. (Cape Town); MFA (Saskatchewan); and did post grad studies in the Tapestry Department at Edinburgh College of Art. She serves on the Hornby Co-op Board.
